Where and how is Playa Tortuga Camping Beach?

Playa Tortuga Camping Beach is located in the coastal community of Salinas Grandes, which is part of the Pacific coastline of Nicaragua. The beach of Salinas Grandes, as other in this coastline presents a dark color sand; in consequence of the activity of the volcanic chain that extends through the country parallel to the pacific coast. In contrast with other beaches, Salinas Grandes Beach is flat; with moderate swell and still conserve its paradisiacal virginity.

As a part of its virginity, the flora of Salinas Grandes beach has a dense dry tropic forest and mangrove forest with the particularity that a few flat lands has been intended to the salt mining activity, which is mainly constitute by salty water pools, where local and migrant birds are attracted to enjoy a feasting of the small shrimps that live in the pools. Additional wildlife that can be seeing there are Guardabarrancos (the typical bird of Nicaragua), Crocodiles, Paslama Turtles, crabs, rabbits, small lizards and marine birds.
           
The beach of Salinas Grandes presents a warm weather the majority of the time, but usually the nights are fresher and sometimes cold; the temperature vary from 28 °C to 36 °C during the day and from 25 °C to 32 °C during the night; the pacific coast of Nicaragua has to seasons, the raining season and the dry season, the first one goes from May to November and the second one goes from December to April.     

The community of Salinas Grandes is very close from two important cities, the colonial city of Leon and the capital city of Nicaragua, Managua. It is 25 km from the city of Leon and 96 km from the city of Managua. The access to Playa Tortuga Camping Beach is considerable easy; it starts in the 77 km of the Managua-Leon highway, which is in a very good condition, and then follows 12km of ground route, where small car can entree.


In contrast with other beaches of Nicaragua, the beach of Salinas Grandes is less visited; this allows the few visitors that come, can enjoy the beauty and nature of the place and share experiences with the local people; who are very friendly and helpfully.
